get_index_template() WordPress Function

The get_index_template() function in WordPress is used to retrieve the path of the index template in the current theme. If the theme does not have an index template, then this function will return the path to the default index template.

Description

The template hierarchy and template path are filterable via the ‘$type_template_hierarchy’ and ‘$type_template’ dynamic hooks, where $type is ‘index’.
