_wp_array_set() WordPress Function

The wp_array_set() function sets an array value for a given key. If the key does not exist, it will be created. If the key exists, the value will be overwritten. This function is useful for setting values in an array that may or may not already exist.

_wp_array_set( array $array, array $path, mixed $value = null ) #

Sets an array in depth based on a path of keys.

Description

It is the PHP equivalent of JavaScript’s lodash.set() and mirroring it may help other components retain some symmetry between client and server implementations.

Example usage:

$array = array();
_wp_array_set( $array, array( 'a', 'b', 'c', 1 ) );

$array becomes:
array(
    'a' => array(
        'b' => array(
            'c' => 1,
        ),
    ),
);
